What Is an Aggregator?

An aggregator distributes your book to multiple retailers — Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and others — from a single upload, rather than you managing each retailer relationship separately.

Current, Legitimate Options

• Draft2Digital — eBooks, now including the former Smashwords distribution network. See our full Smashwords/D2D guide.
• Google Play — eBooks, direct single-destination channel.
• Pothi — eBooks and print-on-demand, focused on the Indian market. See our Pothi guide.
• Lulu — eBooks and print-on-demand. See our Lulu guide.
• Amazon KDP — eBooks and paperbacks, direct to Amazon only (not a multi-retailer aggregator, but the largest single sales channel for most authors).
• Gumroad — Direct sales from your own page, not a retailer aggregator in the traditional sense. See our guide to selling directly.

• IngramSpark / Lightning Source — eBooks and print-on-demand, with strong reach into bookstores and libraries.

No Longer Relevant

• CreateSpace — discontinued in 2019, folded into Amazon KDP.
• Smashwords (as a standalone publishing platform) — now a storefront only, reached via Draft2Digital.

Avoiding Overlap

Since several of these reach the same retailers (Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo appear through multiple paths), publishing the same title through two different aggregators to the same retailer can cause conflicts.
