Free WordPress Themes for Selling Your eBook
If you’re building your own author website rather than using a page-builder service, these free themes are built specifically for authors and writers.
1. MyBook
A simple, responsive theme built specifically for authors — designed around long-form content, book excerpts, and a clean, distraction-free reading experience.
How to install:
- In WordPress, go to Appearance → Themes → Add New.
- Search for “MyBook”.
- Click Install, then Activate.
(Alternatively, download it directly from wordpress.org/themes/mybook and upload the zip file manually — full instructions are on that page.)
2. Book Publisher
An actively maintained theme (still receiving updates as of mid-2026) built for authors, publishers, and book-focused sites. Comes with pre-built pages for showcasing books and author profiles, a one-click demo importer, and drag-and-drop customization — a good option if MyBook feels too minimal for what you need.
How to install:
- In WordPress, go to Appearance → Themes → Add New.
- Search for “Book Publisher”.
- Click Install, then Activate.
3. Astra (General-Purpose, Author-Friendly)
Astra isn’t author-specific, but it’s one of the most widely used free WordPress themes overall, with dedicated starter templates built for authors and for single-book landing pages. If you want more design flexibility and a huge library of starter templates to build from, this is worth considering over a niche theme.
A Word of Caution on Free Themes
Free themes can be a great starting point, but they usually come with limited support, and you’re responsible for updates, security, and compatibility as WordPress itself evolves. If a theme hasn’t been updated in the last year or two, it’s worth checking its WordPress.org listing for that update date before committing your site to it.
Prefer to Skip the DIY Setup?
If you’d rather not manage themes, plugins, and updates yourself, we build and host a complete author website for you — domain, hosting, email, and support included.
